Onshinkan Dojo Welcomes you!

In Memory of Shihan Fumio Toyoda
The Aikido of Northern Indiana (ANI) headquarters facility is Onshinkan Dojo, located at 9152 Louisiana Street in Merrillville, Indiana. In Japanese, "Onshinkan" refers to "Compassionate Mind," or "Warm Mind" and was given to ANI as a dojo name by the late Aikido Association of America (AAA) founder, president and chief instructor, Shihan Fumio Toyoda, in the fall of 2000. ANI has several satellite locations as well. Onshinkan Dojo is a full-time dojo, with 1000 square feet of mat space, a classroom, changing rooms, a bathroom, and cooking and laundry facilities. Our Aikido lineage traces from our instructor directly back to Shihan Toyoda, and to his teachers, Koichi Tohei and the late Kisshomaru Ueshiba. For a time we were affiliated with Aikido World Alliance (headed by Andrew Sato, Shihandai), and then we operated for almost two years as an independent dojo, continuing to dedicate our efforts to teaching in the tradition and spirit of Toyoda Shihan. We are pleased now to be part of Sosei Aikido Kyokai, an organization consisting of a number of former, direct Toyoda students and their own dojo.
